Tell me about it but if Lotus had had this car when we had bought the S2000 we would have bought that, we didn't buy an Elise because it was just miles too impractical (and a bitch to get out of).

Not sure I like the mouth much, that could do with a tweak but other than that the car is desperately pretty.

With both the VW and Mercedes I spoke to the Sales Director of the show rooms (VW was Milton Keynes & Mercedes was Alan Day).

As the months got closer to the launch of the cars, all the dealers were inundated with orders. So I asked them to give my telephone number to the potential buyers and hey presto.

If you put down a deposit then the amount may change - especially as the car is not near production. Try and ride this out but obviously be aware this could go up and up, so know when to get out - just like poker!!

You will after a while get a specifications / options list, order good extras and a nice colour but don't spec it up too high as the list price may put off buyers.

Mine were Gun Metal grey, leather, aircon, trip computers etc - typical 90's stuff. The Alfa 8c never got to that point as i folded early

I hope this helps. I was very tempted to do this again with the GTR but I have now missed the boat

I bought my S2K without driving it. I'd drove it lots on Gran Turismo and read about it in some magazines and that was enough.

I think the Evora's going to be a fantastic car, in true carper fashion I rate it as a 9/10 purely based on my own thoughts of what it will be like. I'd put money down on one too if I knew what my situation (or more specifically, location) was going to be in 12 months time. It has to be in a bright colour though, yellow or orange, IMO. Maybe white, but then every poser and his shitsu has a white car these days.

I am struggling to see how they can be 1350Kg and get sub 5secs with a 280bhp engine. More weight than the S2k and more power but not enough to shave more than a second off the time.
Mid engined = more traction off the line ?

Hmm, well if you compare it to the 1st 996 - the numbers stack up pretty evenly.

The 996 had 285bhp, weighed about 1350kg and was REAR engined.

You can't get better for off the line traction (bar 4wd), yet this still couldn't break the 5 second barrier.

Whilst 1350 is certainly not light, it's not 'heavy' either.

Colin may be turning, but he must know that the people that will be buying these cars expect them to:
  • Work
  • To be resonaly quiet
  • To be reasonably comfortable
  • To have Luggage space
  • To have a Stereo
  • To have 10 million airbags and be capable of crashing into something more substantial than a dandelion and retaining somesort of structural rigidity
And that the last thing he would want is for Lotus to not be making cars at all.
