Default ARDS

I've been presented with an opportunity to get involved in racing, something I've wanted to do for a long time, but time and cash has always been against me. Anyway, some of those hurdles may be out of the way, so I'm looking into getting my ARDS sorted for my National B license and hopefully going racing next season in either the PBMWC or Future Classics series. I know a few of you guys (MB) race on here so assume you have been through the process.

I'm hoping to organise at Castle Combe as local to me and I know the circuit well and waiting a call back from them (not available until monday now). I'm impatient so thought I'd ask on here.

Rough costs / time / how difficult?

Cheers guys.
Phil.

It was a long time since I did mine so not sure of costs these days but I'm sure MB will be able to help there.

Shouldn't take more than a few hours, the written test is a doddle and if you know the circuit and have done a few track days the practical bit will be as well.

You just need to be consistent and aware of other cars.

If you're looking to do PBMW there's plenty of good cars for sale at the moment or if you want to build yourself I'm looking to shift an unfinished project based on a superb shell for a very good price

Combe is where I did mine and it's very good in that they are on the helpful side of getting you to pass.

It's about £325 from memory amd takes a full day. IIRC the info is on their site and the dates.

You will need to apply for the Go Racing pack from MSA website and get all the medical stuff filled in. You don't need the medical before the ARDS but it's better to do so.

The test itself is the driving bit in the morning is in one of their Fiestas and you have to demonstrate you can drive smoothly without crashing Spin and you fail.

Afternoon is the theory part and i'd advise you watch the Go Racing DVD lots of times so you know it insude out. It's a multiple choice sheet and many of them are easy but the flags are a touch more tricky and it's 100% pass rate.

It's basically a Production BMW 320i, needs paint, some decent shocks (it's on some cobbled together crap at the moment) and the development process as it's never been run.

I've also got 325i but I've withdrawn it for sale for the time being as it needs some attention and I'm now considering hanging on to it until my E30 M3 is done.

Thanks chaps, MB, much appreciated, ge2, thanks for the offer but have been offered a drive in a friends car in the future classics series next season so have no need for a car at present. Will bear in mind though as always good to know others in the same format...

It looks a hoot, going to organise a track day or 2 to make sure friend is happy to let me behind the wheel of his motor (he's not seen me drive yet), but looks promising and very excited about it!

Fingers crossed it all pans out, just the small task of getting one equipped... just had a look at demon tweaks and the race wear aint cheap! Also just (as in arrived saturday) bought a new bike helmet for karting, which wont be of much use either!
