Audio help required please! (non S2K)
My old dear's 03 plate import Golf GTi (don't ask - she says it's better than the free bus pass they gave her last year!) is suffering some serious problems with the Blaupunkt head unit. Basically everytime it switches on, it literally works for about 5 seconds (long enough for BLAUPUNKT to scroll across the screen) before making a horrible noise through the speakers and resetting. It then continues to do this over and over.
It has a detachable fascia and isn't coded, but basically none of the buttons or volume control work for the brief periods in which it exhibits any life. I've consulted the manual and, unfortunately, there's no troubleshooting section.
She had to replace the CD changer it is connected to last year as it was also knackered, and is (obviously) quite disillusioned with Blaupunkt as both products have let her down. I think the head unit is probably shagged beyond repair, however I don't want her to replace it with another unit that isn't compatible with the dash-mounted changer.
Any ideas or recommendations?

MMm.. I have a newer model that does this sometimes.
I have a hard disk plugged in to USB, and disconnecting it, power and fascia off then reconnecting it seemed to cure it.
Try pulling the changer out the back and see.
