Nobody mentioned a torque wrench.

Get a good set of bodge tools too: i.e. some old big screwdrivers you don't mind bending, pliers, mole grips, G-clamp, adjustable spanners.

in addition to what's been mentioned

you'll need a couple of torque wrenches - one for low levels on stuff like alloy - another for high torque figures

at least two decent axle stands

a set of at least half a dozen screwdrivers of different sizes

a mixure of ring spanners - 6mm - 18mm - the Halfords ratchet jobs are very good

various pliers - from short to long nose

ditto mole grips

and the best value tool on the planet - a rubber mallet

Buys lots of hammers and mallets.

You simply can't have too many 'persuaders' around...

On a serious note, buy the best tools you can afford - I'm a Facom junkie and these can be bought quite reasonably on Ebay.

Whatever you but, look after them.

Consider a metrinch set of combo spanners and sockets if you can find them. They are a good in the boot standby for a lot of things and you can add other stuff later.

Battery Impact drivers are a bit flash starting off. Nice toy for the man who has everything but by then you'll have air and an air impact driver. I am sure you know this but you need special impact sockets for impact drivers.

As has been said:

good axle stands
good low trolley jack
good set of screwdrivers
couple of mole grips
breaker bar
Torque Wrench (at least one that covers most of the range you care about and not a wanky waver - read bending bar -one either.)
Some universal pullers will come in handy eventually.
Bench with a good vice is also a great tool.
Bodywork is a whole different ball game.

Something to keep it all in. Expect to replace this so don't spend to much until you are getting up to full roll-cabs for all your tools.

Again it's been said but Halfords Pro tools are a good buy and you can build up an impressive set over time.

Boab, just noticed you original intent for buying tools.

I wouldn't bother buying something cheap to fiddle with, to gain experience for supercharging an S.

Just supercharge an S! You will lose pennies doing it the long way, and its very simple to do really - esp with your nice big garage and use of spare cars etc.

Just do it
