The video I have is much better with commentary from the man himself. It's amazing the things he points out on the lap, and how mundane he makes driving at 150mph sound.

well that would be the Rover's speedo for you!!

Pond (dead now unfortunately) tried earlier in the week and couldn't break 100 with Rob Arthur reading pace notes to him, so I think he set that time without a passenger. He couldn't get the car to go any quicker in a straight line because of the gearing I believe. It was a bit of a publicity stunt as he was rallying a group A Rover about that time IIRC

TBH I'm sure I have the record now Would love to have the chance to do a lap on my own with roadsd closed but will never happen of course.

I think the current record is 129.4 by John McGuinness,
The bike records are a bit deceptive because the only truly flying lap is the 6th lap when the race is often over already so you don't get an all out attack. McGuiness's fastest lap was set on the 2nd lap of the race as he came in to pit for fuel - at that point he had established a 12 second lead so can be excused for not trying too hard for the rest of the race which he won by nearly half a minute.

However, Bruce Anstey managed a last lap of 129+, proof that he was chasing a 2nd place position. If he hadn't lost 25s to McGuinness on lap 1, we might have seen a 130+ lap for the first time.
