nothing fancy, with a decent sized boot, that gives me no reason to wash it or particularly look after it etc, decent on the motorway.

was thinking a focus 1.8. any thoughts guys?

A Focus would certainly top the list for me on that budget. They'll probably be high milers, but that's not an issue as long as they have been serviced properly.

ignis sport - wheels at each corner of the car so handles like an old mini, weighs about 900kgs so its easy on tyres and brakes and petrol, reliable engine, quite fast, less miles for the money probably with the balance of a 3 year warranty.

or a Nissan Almera. Same as a Focus with half the mileage and none of the faults.

Lots of variants from 1.2 (I think) - through 1.5 Diesel to a 1.8 'sport'

does exactly what you have described above.

I bought a Focus early last year. Went for a low miler 1.8 Zetec. It's been great and cost more to tax than run. It's clocked up over 40k in my care and only needed a new front spring (
