Default Beater Question

The missus has a Micra (L Reg) and the exhaust is whistling - turns out there is a load of hair coming out of it!! Naturally I was a little disturbed but have found an article online suggesting it is the soundproof material in the exhaust and is a sign of the backbox going? I have pulled and prodded and it's all back down in the box or on my driveway so no more whistling...

Has anyone ever heard of this? I have pulled out a load and it no longer whistles but is it safe to leave? (only keeping for another 6 months or so) I would imagine if it would get any worse it would start whistling again, at which point I could re-evaluate..

Am I right in thinking the worse thing to happen would be it would whistle, then stop, and maybe even go bang? (safely)

Any thoughts on what was a hairy moment for me would be appreciated

I think so, I figure as long as it doesn't affect the driving I will leave as is?
