Boxster
Hi All
Been ages since I've posted a thread up.
I'm in the market for a fun car again. As it's been a while since I sold the S2000, I've not kept an eye on the latest and greatest of roadsters out there, but I am quite interested in the new shape Boxster.
The old ones have never really floated my boat, but I do like the shape of the current model, and the interior is a lot classier than it used to be.
I test drove a 2.7 yesterday, and now that they have 265bhp, they're much more fun than the ones from yesteryear.
Questions:
1. Does anyone have experience of driving them
2. Is the £5k premium you pay for the S vs 2.7 worth it (maximum use will be for spirited A road driving - maybe a rare track day)
3. Which optional extras are a must have, both for personal benefit while I have it, and also for resale.
Cheers

I think someone on here, bundle of mayhem? Had an S and liked it
Is flogging it or was. But it's not the latest shape, they are mega dollar.
The PDK box is awesome (been in a Cayman S) clinically quick and very well balanced

I have driven the new non s cayman manual.
All my observations seem relevant to the boxster:
Brilliant looking.
Interior looks nice but is way less practical than it looks, lots of buttons behind the gear stick.
Engine doesn't feel like it has that much power. Reading around people think the manual's gear ratios are too long.
Chassis is amazing, but I couldn't buy a non s because I couldn't help thinking I'd rather have a the s version. Which I couldn't afford.
Std eqpt is woefully lacking. 2k for a USB port.
I came away thinking the cayman was amazing but wasn't quite worth the premium.
2nd hand however...

My opinion v's the S.
I like the simplicity of the S and the rawness where you felt like it was just about to kick out and let go. The Boxster S is a lot more settled and not as raw.
I miss the simplicity of the S interior where everything was touchable from the steering wheel. In the Porsche I've had to pull over a couple of times to find the button I want!
The drive though is fabulous and it just picks up in any gear and the more I drive it the more I love it. I've actually been looking at the figures to see if we can just keep it and look at it through the window!
I would suggest getting one with the Sports Chrono pack as it definitely make a difference.
Went on the Porsche Experience day at Silverstone earlier this year and drove the Caymen R with and without the PDK and the PDK is absolutely awesome. I never thought I would drive an 'auto' but God it was effortless.
Good look in your search and get use to no one letting you out and just hating your guts for owning a Porsche
Cheers for the welcome back Mark.
And David - STFU.
Thanks BoM.
I guess little point me comparing to the S2000 though, as it's not an option (when are they bringing a new one out?).
How did you feel the Sports Chrono package made a difference?
Would almost certainly have the PDK, but is PASM worthwhile?
Can't see the point in 2K for the sat nav either.
Buying the Boxster S brand new, with the options I want would be more than I could afford though. Perhaps 2nd hand, but would be looking at a 6 month old car with 5K miles on the clock. Which isn't unpalatable.
That being said, it's not as if the non-S was without power, and probably plenty enough for the roads one would be driving on.
The S will have higher running costs too.
But, will I regret not getting the better model.......
