Yes you can ......

You go to a local shop to try them on. When you find one that fits and that you like you then go buy it online and save a few

not much in the way of local motorsport shops up here, only bike shops. So I can go try some more bike places. There's quite a few in Glasgow and I tend to be there fairly freequently.

Bikers say that there are basically 2 types of helmet shape, Arai or Shoei. Your head will fit either one or the other ....... once you know the size and shape you should be able to buy any helmet from their range and know that it will fit.

I too have a large head!! (Size 62)
I was worried by this same issue, and nervously ordered an Arai open face helmet from Demon Tweeks a couple of years ago now. I wanted open face because I wear specs and find it difficult to squeeze them (and my big head) into a full face helmet. I used their online guide as to measurement. As it turned out the helmet fitted perfectly. I have used it twice at Oulton Park with no comment being made by anyone in charge about open face helmets not being allowed. Ditto at Paul Ricard and Donington Park. The only place I have been told not to use it was at a local indoor kart track.

Thanks, I'll phone around and find some local stockists.

How do you pronounce Shoei?

is it Shoo-ee, Shway, or Shoo?

Good I am glad you agree, now lets move on :)
Actually you're both right. Open face helmets are allowed on the circuit but not in open top cars. BHPtrack days were strict on this a couple of weeks ago at Oulton.

I nearly bought my helmet on line but live quite close to Demon Tweeks so went down to try some on - I didn't buy the one I had selected on line - it is important you get to try before you buy.
