I couldn't insure a 2.8 when I were a lad.

I have had two Mk3s' but they've both been lowly 1600s', although one of them had the obligatory twin-choke weber which did make it sound rather nice.

I saw a Capri that must have had a V8 fitted last week, big intake up through the bonnet!

My dad owned a met blue Y reg (1983??) 2.8i. It was an amazing car, I loved it!

Anyone remember the very fast Tickford Turbo version?

A true 140mph and 0-60 in 6.7 secs... It was good looking back then

Looks like something Del Boy would drive now

If come across a decent (not show condition) 2.8i Special for no more than a couple of grand I'll have it. In the absence of the S, I've been thinking about getting a cheap, fun road car and it's currently top of the list.

I know they're rare but the only difference with a 280 Brooklands is the wheels, a full leather interior and the colour, not worth the extra dosh to someone like me who just wants to drive the thing.

The one at the start of Minder was my favourite. I never liked the later ones. I always thought they looked like my uncle Tommy's slippers.

There's just so much wasted bodywork at the front.

Still I can understand why there's a following. There's a guy who works near my place who drives the most banged up and absolutely horrible opel manta you have ever seen. Surely it'd be worth putting up with a banger if it was a proper classic, and slowly restoring it, but a Manta?!

Imagine one that looks like it's been on fire and no one's bothered fixing it afterwards, and that's what this guy's looks like.
