This car has had a fair bit of bad press
Funny enough i like the looks with the roof down, a few tweeks with the front and it would look rather agressive, not to shabby i would say, at least it looks like it was made for this century

The picture of that red one is hilarious!!! (not the desired intention of BMW's designers I'm sure)... what a beauty eh!

What BMW (and most other manufacturers) should be doing is trying to get back to a light weight car, over recent years the weight of even so called compact and city cars has gone through the roof!
The 1 series coupe should be a compact, focussed, light weight drivers car and not a tub of lard. A little of the Colin Chapman ethos wouldn't go amiss.

But everyone wants creature comforts and 5* NCAP ratings - well most people do. All of these aspects ruins the fun aspect of a car. The best days were in the mid ninties with one airbag, 150bhp and a nice light car (clio williams), Alfa 146/7 ti or CloverleafUnfortunately it will continue to get worse as we / general public demand 21" alloys, rear dual climate, airbags for you eyelids etc.
I can see what BMW are trying to achieve, but I reckon they could have stripped a load of sh1te out and it would have been brilliant, but nothing nothing can be done about the lloks though
I hope they've painted them a bit better than the current 3-series coupe?
I was quite suprised to see how orange peel the sides are. At first I thought the local dealership had badly repaired the thing, but every other car they had, displayed the same finish - immensly poor. Orange peel and lacking in depth.
Look at any dark coloured 3 series coupe and you'll see what I mean.
1 Series Saloon, coupe, etc..... - not my cup of tea I'm afraid.
Proportions just aren't right. It misses the key to other BMW models where you never had to embelish the thing with much bodykit to define it. The changes from cooking model to flame thrower were subtle, but made the superior model obvious.
