Default Tomtom or Garmin?

The window mount for my Tomtom GO300 disintegrated the other day so I am going to take the opportunity to use that solely in my other car and get a new unit for the S.

I expected to go for the Tomtom One V4 but took a look at the competition and the wide screen Garmin unit has a better screen, much brighter and sharper.
It is also very thin with a good choice of mounts.
Price seems better than the TT too, Europe maps for about

I've only good things to say about my Garmin 250W. It's a basic unit but if that's all you need, then it's great. Got me to the South of France perfectly and has worked without fail in England too.

The only thing it doesn't do is an itinerary (only has one via point for a journey) but that's not a huge issue really.

Garmin. As for which one check their website and you can see the options available.

Garmin.

I have got the Nuvi 770 and I think it's excellent.

Only gripe is that they lie about battery time! They say 5 hours, I say 2-3 hours.

Speed camera database could be better too, contrary to what many have said it is NOT as good as the Road Angel database.

I've always been a TomTom person, but I think the Garmin is technically better (TT just have more adverts).

The reason I went TT was more due to the fact I knew I could get the euro maps cheaper (and later, could get it running on my N95 phone).

I like the Garmin Nuvi I have although the routes it chooses can be a bit odd. And the estimated time of arrival seems to be calculated on the maximum speeds of the roads, regardless of lights or roundabouts etc.

My Nuvi is remarkably accurate in terms of ETAs, probably because I tend not to speed and rarely slow down for roundabouts

I got a TomTom GO 530. It has lots of funky features on it, none of which I use. So save your money and get the TomTom ONE XL instead. The larger screen is nice.

I was looking at Garmin and TT recently, I went TT in the end and got the 520T.

Came down to the user interface in the end, tested both and found the Garmin wasn't as easy to use as the TT.

Prefer the Garmin as it's less bulky.
