Default Car Upgrade/Maintenance Recording Software

I track all of my services, upgrades, repairs etc via a self-made database in MS Access. It's now the only thing I use Access for, so I'd like to move away from it to allow me to upgrade to Office 2010 without paying through the nose for the privilege of having Access. I use aCar on my Android for tracking fuel usage/mpg and it has the ability to record services, expenses etc, and nearly fulfils all my requirements, except one. When inputting a service record, you have to choose from a (customisable) list of service items, which isn't any good for recording upgrades, where I'd only ever input them once (I'd end up with an ever-increasing, unwieldy list to choose from). It also isn't too good for recording other details about the upgrade (eg when recording a new set of tyres, there's no 'notes' field to record what tyres I chose).

Has anyone tried any Android or PC-based software for recording all of these things? If so, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks
Chris

If you read all my post, you'll notice that I've already got aCar but there are a couple of features I'd like that it's missing, hence the post!

Good to know someone else who likes it though, I think it's a cracking bit of software.

I'd just port it to the new version of Excel - the data stuff there is pretty good nowadays.

Must admit, I've not played around with Excel other than basic stuff, conditional formatting etc etc. Any hints/tips? Do you just use worksheets as you would tables in Access? Is much VBS required?

Have a look into the "database" functions that Excel has, it's pretty powerful, especially the new "Tables" function which is certainly worth a look.

You can refer to rows/columns by Table rather than having to set up ranges like you used to which is great for producing reports, and the Pivot Tables are now superb.

I sense an upgrade to Win7 and Office 2010 coming up...! Sounds like Excel 2010 will do what I'm after then, if it has specific database functions. Thanks Groova.
