Default CAT removal - Emissions

My brother has a J registered st185 celica gt4 import and wants to remove the catalytic convertor. The legal requirement for a cat came in later than when the vehicle was registered (1993?). Will he have any problems meeting the emissions requirement for MOT if he removes it? Do MOT stations test the vehicle based upon its OEM spec (i.e. from a databook or database) or do they just say anything beyond year 'X' is not tested for lambda closed-loop control? Cheers

01/08/92 is the official date so J reg is ok without one.

You can probably get away with it. My brother has removed it on his MR2 and has no problems with the MOT

Dont worry, J reg is ok for sure.

If you are concerned go to the nearest MOT station and ask, they have an Autodata wall chart covering every car and year. A 91' Jap car is deffo ok.
