Default A challenge

I have a car that will disappear into the scrappage scheme in May

I'm happy with £2K for it/off the price of the new one

But I reckon I make more by selling bits off it before then

For example, the towbar, the foglights, spare wheel, toolkit, the stereo and car phone

So, what else do you think I can get out of it or off it and sell before I drop it off at the dealer?

All that matters is that I can drive it there legally (it will have an MOT and be insured)

Depends on the car. Some car interiors are worth selling.

if this is the Omega Pete, I would take the various sensors out if possible, eg ABS sensor, speed sensor etc.

It may not be 'legal' strictly speaking, but should get you to your destination.

I had a nightmare trying to source them a few weeks ago. Luckily, I didn't need them in the end.

Boot cover. mats.

Does depend on which car we're talking about of course.

It depends on the condition
You could remove/sell the:
seats
Horn
Electric window switches/manual window winders
Seatbelts
Airbags
Interior lights
Heated rear windscreen

It depends on what margins your after and how much effort/time you want to put in, and whether any parts are in demand for whatever car it is.
I also don’t know what the scrappage laws are about gutting the car before you take it in.

Swap alloys and decent tyres for scrapyard steel wheels with barely legal rubber.

Sell the decent seats and replace them with £5 scrapyard seats.

The carpets, the roof liner, the glove box, the coat hangers, window winders and door handles and door cards.

You could removed the air filters from under the hood and run without for the last journey – probably a few other engine parts could be removed too or swapped for knackered ones if you had the time and they were worth anything.

You could take the cat off and replace it with an improvised piece of generic pipe held on by radweld and jubilee clips.

Any aircon parts might be worth something.

I’m pretty sure you can remove half the glass windows and still have a legal car.

Seatbelts on unused seats.

Most of this depends on whether anyone would actually want the parts.

Pete,

FFS just prize off the suction cups and you can take it with you. No need for all this cloak and dagger stuff
