Does the potential benefit (may be £250?) really warrant the time and effort?

Or are you just bored?

Exactly what I thought for a man of substance like gad.

Though it is said, "Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves." With his empire I am surprised that he has the time or the inclination to bother.

I have a car that will disappear into the scrappage scheme in May

I'm happy with £2K for it/off the price of the new one

But I reckon I make more by selling bits off it before then

For example, the towbar, the foglights, spare wheel, toolkit, the stereo and car phone

So, what else do you think I can get out of it or off it and sell before I drop it off at the dealer?

All that matters is that I can drive it there legally (it will have an MOT and be insured)

Chopping out the old M5 for a new Smart car then Pete?

I don't think too many people here earn £125 an hour, which I thiink is all it will take to remove items worth £250, maybe more

just seems daft not to

that's a couple of month's petrol or a year's road tax on a bigger car

plus the unquantifiable satisfaction in depriving a scumbag scrap dealer of £250

I did once part ex a car (not via scrappage scheme) when I knew at least one possibly both wheel bearings were well and truely stuffed, and the gearbox was on the way out so only 2 gears were possible to select.

I had it towed to the unsuspecting stealer on the 24Dec, stopped at the top of the hill and free wheeled it to the dealer carpark. It was so totally ruined that they couldn't move it (battery had myseriously died) until New Year as thier mechanics were all off for festivities.

I did not return for the servicing option.

Go for it, hope the parts sell once you had strippped them

not quite

I'm changing the daily cars in the household for sensible ones

I am happy to exchange warranties, depreciation and predictable running costs for excitement on the road and potential random billls

the fact that I'm also changing my road driving habits helps or I might be frustrated

and pleasure driving wiill come from my growing collection of rusty heaps and one monster

If you have the time and knowledge, why not?

Pete, window motors and mechanisms, air con unit (if it's not too much of a pain), towbar and electrics.

Think complete (ie. a complete set of mats, doorcards etc.) as it opens up your market a bit more and never underestimate what might sell.

There must be more, just think like me (pikey).

My friend had his Focus broken in to a while ago and had the airbags removed, along with the jack and spare wheel. I guess that's an indication of what is sought after.
I removed the spare wheel, jack, mats, cd-changer and boot lid before chucking the old Focus over to the dealer on Saturday. Had a long drive to the dealer to risk much else although I keep thinking of other things I could have removed.
