I hope this doesn't turn into a Hammond/Maddie/Diana episode.

But if he has a public funeral I will attend as a mark of respect. He's been a hero of mine for a long time, and any Scot I know who knows anything about motorsport is immensely proud of Colin.

Does Britain have any living rally champs now that Burns and McRae are gone?

Nope, he was the first.
He was a fantastic driver. Balls out all the way, he never seemed to be able to drive any other way

gutted! really am. thats such a shame. I dont mind when normal celebs/sporties die but this one put a lump in my throat. Down to earth guy who did what we would all love to do for a living. So young too

If not already mentioned

Formal identification of the crash victims is not expected until mid-morning on September 16th at the earliest, however McRae is known to be a keen helicopter pilot, and his agent Jean-Eric Freudiger has stated that McRae was piloting the helicopter at the time of the crash and that McRae and his five-year-old son Johnny were killed in the crash, in which Strathclyde police confirm there were no survivors. Also on board were believed to be his son Johnny, another adult - said by locals to be a school friend of McRae - and another child. McRae's wife Alison and their daughter Hollie, 9, were not on board, friends said

Just heard this on the news - shocked.

I used to follow the WRC a great deal, as a Scoob owner.

What a driver.

He also was responsible for the Impreza getting where it got to....

That's really sad. A few years after losing Richard Burns too.
