Crazy Passat driver!
I was coming into work today in my beautiful car. I was on the A343 (A wonderful road between Andover and Newbury).
I live in the countryside so I have a rule that I do 30 in a 30 etc where there are houses. I wouldn't want someone killing my animals or a neighbours child so I wouldn't want to put others at risk either.
Anyway, as I am coming out of Hurstbourne Tarrant in a 30 heading up hill to a de-restricted some crazy old bloke in a passat takes me.
I was in a state of shock so I accelerated a little and watched him struggle past me.
I found myself annoyed at his behaviour because the prospect of a high speed run through the twisties was seriously under threat.
I had to follow him and another car for 2 miles whilst we struggled through the hills. When we came to the next available oportunity to pass I gave him no chance.
I floored my baby and shot past him and the other car. I still got a little of my high speed run but I was quite annoyed.
What was the old s*d doing in the 1st place. He came very quickly through the village and stuck to my ar*e. Then as we came out 'shot off' (Ho Ho). Was he blind?
He only got up the hill because I let him pass me.
Grumpy Sam.

It never ceases to horrify me that some people insist in driving stupidly.....
When I passed my test the advice given to me by my dear old father was "Always assume other people on the road are idiots".
Makes me sad when I realise that he was right.
I drove Newbury->Southampton via country lanes not too long ago. Great piece of the country.

I sometimes take that road as a scenic route home to Southampton from work in Newbury - I love the uphill in the opposite direction - leaving other cars like they were standing still at the bottom.

Yup. It's very common. I've very lucky to have a wonderful winding A-road to commute to/from work along. There are a couple of sections with restrictions... I always stick to the limit there.
I've lost count of the number of times some idea will catch me in the village (including one with a 50mph limit...) before I vtec away again...
There are so many people happy to stick up you're bumper when you're in a village, but then get an attitude when you can accelerate away when it's derestricted again...
Even worse IMHO are the idiots who do 50mph in the derestricted sections in good weather, and then keep doing 50mph when it drops to a 30...
My most fun drive in my ITR was a simple one. Came up behind a little diesel van doing 30mph on a drestricted road. Vtec'ed past, 8,500rpm
Saw a real nasty frown in my rear view mirror. I was out tweaking my seat position after having some work done on the car.. so I pulled into the next laybay, adjusted the seat. Waited. Pull out behind him again. Vtec'ed past again.
Got him 3 times
With the ITR I know he could hear Vtec over any diesel engine

Not very friendly I know, but someone doing 30mph along a clear derestricted road can be a big hazard... It's not like he was a tractor limited to 20-30mph, with a light on. (I do take care as there are a lot of tractors around here. Courteous to a man round here which is great.
Enough ranting

We have inconsiderate A$$es over here, too. I thought it was bad in my silver S until I got my new Yellow one. I am starting to believe that people will actually go out of thier way to get in my way...
Yes,
I travel out to work to the A34 junction just before Newbury. I love this piece of road so much.
It's re-assuring (Should it be???) to see that continents are not sufficient to control the nuts.
I agree it is even more annoying to see people do the same speed regardless of signs. One minute they are a mobile hazard causing a jam the next they are a lethal hazard for speeding.
