Default A day at Millbrook :-) .......

I went to a 'green' company car test event at Millbrook earlier in the week
- better than a day in the office.

There were 11 manufacturers there with their greenest models, as well as a few toys to hook people in (Focus RS, CTR, Z4 etc.), so it wasn't a total loss. The format was once round the hill circuit then two laps of the bowl at max 100mph in each car you test-drove.

Similar to Top Gear's Prius vs M3 race, I noticed the BM 530d had recorded an average of 27mpg for the day, compared to the new even more green than before Prius' 24mpg (50mpg less than the big sticker on the side claimed)!!!

The Prius is also heavy and an awful drive. The trim is a bit better than the new Insight, but the Honda is quite a giggle to drive - actually quite willing and chuckable.

I drove an Alfa Mito, CTR, Accord Type S, 530d, 120d M Sport, Saab 9-3 Aero, but the two stand-out cars were totally unexpected:

My runner up was a Citroen C1 - I've always loved the inteligent way it's engineered to save costs, but it was a real laugh chasing a BM 730 round the bowl maxed out just short of the ton. But the best by far was a Corsa that I didn't even drive!.......

GM Special vehicles had a their fleet of plod demonstrators there, so I ended up being driven round the bowl at 100mph by my fleet buyer in a proper Police car. We even got to play with the lights. You don't get to do that every day - Superb!
