Default Is Diesel dead?

Interesting article in The Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/green-...iesel-dead.html

Diesel sales are falling thanks to the scrappage scheme...

I hate them but there's a few that are decent, the Jag one that goes into the XF is good, the BMW 35d is very good but you only get an Auto box, the Audi 3.0 Tdi is good as well although not as refined.

That's all well and good, but it's the majority (smaller versions) that are awful. Particularly given the myth that a big torque figure makes a car fast.

Surely less diesel = less mysterious S2000 crashes?

If you have 2 cars.. one sportscar and one diesel, it actually makes sense.

I have a diesel auto Merc and for those days when you have to go long distance or through heavy traffic its a godsend.

45mpg from a 3 litre auto diesel is great, particularly when the car does the driving and you barely have to look out the window.

I find driving fast cars in such conditions frustrating. I prefer open roads for my 'spirited' driving !
