Default Ditch Timescale

So what's the shortest amount of time that you have owned a car before pranging it?

I've heard loads of stories, most from car dealers, in fact predominantly sports car dealers, of how the new owner leaves the showroom, drives off into the distance only to spanner it into a ditch on the following corner.

I'm basing this on an absolutely legendary new purchase recently that ended in disaster.

So go on - how long..........

I've seen a few clips of motorbikes being binned as they leave the showroom
I think the excuse is the release compound in the tyres and not a twatty right hand.
No car stories though I'm afraid.

When I first passed my test, I had a Mk2 Escort that I span at a roundabout and landed in the central reservation.

That was seven days after passing my test though!

I scraped my boss's week and a half old 3 series coupe on the corner of a wall.

It only had 450 miles on the clock

My mate managed to write-off his old man's brand new 3 Series.

His parents went on holiday the week after the car was delivered and let my mate drive it to uni while they were away.

Cue oversteer off the roundabout and taking out a lamp post. Car written off.

He arrived at the airport to collect them in a Fiat Punto hire car and was not popular. Though, because the car was so new, the insurers paid to replace it.

Ah - some classics!

So apart from the bike leaving the garage one, what's the shortest time frame?

The one I heard on Monday was a matter of minutes. I think some might know the culprit too!
