Thumbs up Double yellows

Hi,

I was driving with a friend a few days ago, and he pulled up to park on double yellows, I said... nah, you can't park here, but he insted that it was ok because there was a plate saying.. 8:30-6:30 or something.

I always thought that single yellows have a plate explaining the applicable times, and double yellows mean that you can't park there at any time, except for loading.

Looking at the highway code on the net, it seems a bit ambiguous. On one page it says "no parking at any time", then on another section it says that there can be a "seasonal" change.. (I assume this is something like May-Aug) or something.

What I can't understand is why would they have double yellows and a plate saying 8:00-6:30 ?? why not single yellows?

Rich.

In Ireland a single yellow means no parking at all
a double yellow means no parking at all, at all!

single yellows = time restrictions on parking
double yellows = no parking any time.

yeah, that's what I though initially, but there was a sign above the double yellows with a time restriction.. do you think that this could have applied to a previous single yellow.. or is there a case when a time restriction (non-seasonal) applies to double yellows ?

Don't forget red lines or Red Routes, these are the absolutely no stopping ever ever at all.

This is from Direct.gov and is therefor likely to be correct.

double yellow lines - parking is banned, although there may be specific exceptions for loading
single yellow lines - parking is banned at specified times

The plate will have been about either a previous single yellow, loading or an adjacent single yellow.

* unless you are an untaxed, uninsured pikey, in which case park where you like, without fear of punishment

double yellows is no parking at any time.

So technically you can stop briefly, to drop someone off for example.

If it's a double yellow with vertical lines through it, you can't even do that.

I think you'd have a good case if you got a ticket here as there is a blatant inconsistency, the double yellows and the allowed parking time board.

Sounds like a lazy council couldn't be arsed to take the old sign down.
