Default DVLA SORN question

I bought a car in December and as it's undergoing a restoration at a specialist I wanted it sorned from 1/1/13.

The V5 has come through ok but no VED reminder

Mindful of fines and hassle from failing to SORN I tried to do it online

That resulted in a screen response that it has to be done via a VED licensing Post Office (something to do with 'recent changes to the vehicle details or ownership)

I also tried using their online phone service - same result as above. Unsurprisingly, there is no 'speak to a human' option.

So today I tried the Post Office who said they can't do it either. I quote: "we used to be able to but DVLA have removed all the forms and have told us to give customers this phone number"

You guessed it - the number I have already tried that referred me to the Post Office...

I could go to a local DVLA office (but that's bloody time consuming, involves a visit to scum city and no guarantee I'll get any further) so just wondered if anyone else has had to do this and what they did

Failing an easy online/telephone solution I will send a recorded delivery letter but I'm sure that won't be satisfactory

I SORN a few of my cars every year and have never had any problems

I've had issues re-taxing them and unfortunately that has involved a trip to my local DVLA office

In your case I'm guessing the recent change in ownership hasn't filtered through their computer system/database yet

I fear a trip to your local DVLA office is going to be your only solution, but you could try phoning them first:

You could try

evl.feedback@dvla.gsi.gov.uk

I found a linky error when I was trying to renew my photocard licence online & they were quite prompt in fixing it and getting back to me.

The DVLA went live with the beta of their website & then moaned it didn't work, but they've got a lot better on IT since those days!

someone saw the car at the garage and asked if it was for sale

eveything is of course, so it's no longer mine

I've just stuffed a letter/home made SORN decalration in with the V5 which is in a post box en route to Swansea
