Evans to do top Gear
I remember he was asked/nudged about it a couple of weeks after the "incident", and he said no (really a yes all along, I suspect).
I suspect that JC along with May & Hammond anyway, had really become a bit out of date. Some of the shows over the last 5 years have been wanting, had some dreadful material. Good stuff too, handy to watch back some on Dave.
Evans won't try and emulate JC, he's a character himself but I hope I don't become bored of him. JC was an absolute buffoon - which made him all the more watchable on the dreary episodes. I suspect the format will be enticing however we, the motoring community, will obviously do a "compare" after the first episode airs.
Hope it's not a car crash, as I suspect it might be

I was watching TFI Friday last night as it happens. I hope he does something original with it, and makes it his show rather than just continuing as before. If he does that, and I'm sure he will (maybe that's what they were negotiating about) then it could turn out to be pretty good.
It will be interesting to see how they fill the time. The three amigos were able to spread the load and were good TV in their own ways. I can just about stand Evans on Radio 2 - certainly more than that Felz motormouth woman who sometimes comes on later and any of the stand-ins at bank holiday time.
The boy just came on the radio saying Dermot O'leery and Jody Kidd are being considered as side kicks. Lost a few points with me there but just as long as it's not TFI with cars. That would keep that Sunday slot free for other TV in our house.
On the other hand if he could tempt Cameron Diaz over here ...
