On the motorway - 30 + no problem even at 80mph - my record is 34.8mpg on a run from Southampton to Liverpool, I was being very careful though.

Still 30 odd is good considering the performance of the car

And besides, with THAT engine under the bonnet, MPG doesn't matter. Detoured to go through a tunnel today

I've never really heard one on full chat, from the outside.

But I actually like the tinny noise when pottering around.

It's quite a hard edged metallicy noise, due to the exhaust being stainless as standard. It almost sounds like the engine's lunching itself, but not quite. I can only really describe it, by saying it's a bit like the Ferrari 360's engine note, only an I6 version of the V8 note. ie high pitched, revvy noise.

It bloody great. It's a fantastic allrounder, although road biased. Works well enough on the track though. But you'd want a CSL for regular track work.

I'm starting to think that.

I don't do big miles and there are some real bargains out there.

I just removed my supersprint rear box and I actually prefer the original exhaust. Its a mad sound, sounds like a bag of nails first thing, thats just the way they are- highly tuned engine...........hangon Im talking myself into keeping this now. Actually I genuinely believe these have bombed BUT have bottomed - I reckon I could get the same now or the same in a year!

The van idea is becoming more appealing I reckon a Kangoo, insurance and tax all in for

Hmmmm........ are you really going to buy a van?

Car sales at the moment are truely poo, although not that different to house ones to be fair!

Moff - those digs at the big engined deisel 5/3 series were based on nearly buying a 530d earlier in the year. Most average around 25mpg on combined motorway and town driving, bit more for the 3 series due to the weight. The 35 is slightly worse, although not much.

I know a lot of it comes down to how you drive it too, although these numbers were from owners etc. You're right, the petrol ones are significantly worse although I wasn't looking for one of those at the time!
