Default Extended warranty?

Just wondering on peoples experiences with extended warranties - Im considering a warrantees direct warranty for an Audi RS4 - Audi may also offer me one but its 1200 quid rather than 800!

What do people think? do these companies cough up?

Aftermarket warranties? Too many "Sorry sir, that's wear and tear so not covered" stories for me to put much faith in them. They also seem frequently to wriggle a lot to get out of paying even when the claim is legit.

OEM extended warranties? Tend to be pricey but cover quite a lot more. If Audi do a warranty and it looks like it has decent coverage, I'd prefer to go for that even if it cost a bit more.

This kind of debate goes on frequently on the PH Porsche board and there have been some real horror stories about blown engines and the like, and aftermarket warranty companies flatly refusing to pay on the flimsiest of pretexts.

The one time I tried to claim, for a gearbox noise problem, they said the gearbox must be dismantled to see if the fault was covered by the warranty. If not I would have to pay for the investigation myself.

Apart from the noise the box was ok so needless to say I didn't bother...
