F1: Monaco
[QUOTE=ianl,May 25 2008, 08:31 PM]I still find it odd that so many people here appear to kick against Hamilton because of the (admitedly irritating) ITV coverage.
He is a good driver.
He is the most exceptional driver Britain has produced for several generations.
Ferrari should win this years titles with relative ease - they have a clear car advantage.
If they don't,
He is a good driver.

If they don't,
IMO he was lucky in Monaco.
Had he not hit the barrier, his strategy would probably have had him finishing second or third.
Still, a good drive in changing conditions, especially managing to get a free pit stop. He was lucky in that he was on the right tyres when few others were but, all said and done, a good drive.

Lets remember his age and that he nearly won the "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP" in his first season.
I personally can't even imagine how big an achievement that is.
Hats off to the guy from me, and I say give him a break. It's not cool for us Brits to give too much praise though

I don't see any current F1 drivers that are *better* than Hamilton,
Alonso, Kimi for a start
LH did get pref treatment last year, if McLaren had backed Alonso the same way as LH, he'd have won the Championship, instead only he lost by a couple of points even without bugger all help. LH folded under the pressure big time last year and will again if it gets tight near the end of the season

It does seem to be a very English disease whereby we happily slate our own. I seriously doubt this was happening in Germany when Schumacher was top of the pile

I also love the way it's somehow Lewis' fault for getting a drive in a top ten in his first year
The guy signed up with Mclaren years ago and Ron took a massive gamble on him last year. It paid off, and he should have won a championship.

Lewis lost the championship last year because the team got the tactics wrong on more than one occasion. China sticks in my mind where the team screwed up and told him to pit far too late.
Kimi can match Lewis, but Alonso is not even in the same league. He was johnny on the spot when he went to Renault and lucked out with the best car. He still makes silly mistakes for a 2 time World Champion, and he restored to dirty tactics to put Lewis off his game............he failed, and everyone sees Alonso for what he really is.

you'll have to explain that one to me
he clearly isn't black

What haircut would you like him to have?
I just don't get the Massa thing. He is genuinely driving well at the moment, but I consider Kimi to be far superior. Kimi did this last year too. Mind seemingly somewhere else for a handful of races, then back on it and racing like a bastard.
