I disagree - I think that Silverstone is a very good track to run F1 races on - perhaps only Spa and Suzuka are better. It is somewhere that F1 cars can run at their full potential, without being continually slowed down for marketing purposes (though the Luffield complex was clearly a cynical move in this direction).

Watching the cars through the Becketts complex is awesome - they appear to defy the laws of physics when they change direction. Bridge, Copse and Club are all excellent corners. And the track layout is such that cars can race and overtake. Generally the British GP produces one of the more entertaining races of the season.

So, the track is (IMHO) good and well up to world standards.

What appears to be the cause of ongoing, consistent dispute are the facilities - for race teams, officials, the press and (I find it hard to believe it carries much weight) paying spectators.

Silverstone is not a great place to view F1 - Brands Hatch and Spa are much much better - but this is largely due to geography - they have elevation changes which will always help. Silverstone never will and as such viewing of live action will always be limited.

That is Ian. What access did you have on each day for that price?

That was general admission for 3 days and was a special offer - you had to buy the tickets before the end of Feb. IIRC.

I've often thought that, but I think I'd be a bit dissapointed to be watching the race on telly knowing I could be watching live.

Saturday has always been the best day of the GP weekend IMO

BTW I booked on the website before end of Feb. I think the offer was until the end of March.

Feb 2004 I take it? MJ would have booked some time in 2003 as they were for my birthday (Jan).

Hi Chaps,

I think taking Silverston off the F1 calander would be a real shame especially as F1 is a great part of British Motorsport Heritage. I have been looking at the whole situation for while now ie a few years and it seems that the effect of all the goings on just de-value Silverstone hence why ownership of Silverstone has changed so many times...cough cough i wonder who is buying up shares in the place. This final battle led by Mr Ecclestone has had a huge impact on the value of the track. Just the thought of F1 being taken away from Silverston this year has de-valued the place by a great deal. To me it seems like a certain someone just wants to de-value the place so much so that they can buy the track outright at a bargain basement price to re-form it.....Greed just doesnt get you anywhere in my books.
