Family Car

the base car seemed like a decent spec to me, they had a 'pure SD4' in the show room at 30,900 with park distance and upgraded wheels, that's all we'd want I think. You can spec easily up to 40k with pan roof, rev camera, heated clutch pedal etc, but I don't see we'd really need any of that tat.
Valid point about the rear windows though, will think about that some more.

No they're not, as confirmed by this:
I don't think you have. It's obvious that while the Evoque will tick the majority of boxes for you and the family, there'll still be at least one box left unticked. The novelty of the truck will soon wear off when you realise that
1. on the day you've offered to pick up some friends, you need to vacuum the seats and carpets so they don't have to sit on biscuit crumbs or rest their feet on dried mud
2. the boot's turned into just another place to store the family's day-to-day junk, as opposed to being a transportation vessel
3. there's little you can do about the scuffs to the interior after a few trips to IKEA to buy those items of furniture that your wife needs
I think the Alfa's a good idea. Dad's toy. It'll give you something to tinker with when you need to get away from it all. Plus, who cares if it doesn't start? It can't be moving when you're polishing it.
last nights brain wave, was to get the Evoque sorted and then for the very rare occasion that we need 2 cars, have an Alpha GT parked on the drive. Always loved the look of the car, everyone should own an alpha at some stage (so they say) and the 3.2 V6 sounds glorious.
There are few knocking around for well under £4k these days.
it may not start on the rare occasion that I do need a second car, but it has 4 seats and would be a nice driveway ornament if nothing else.

I like your way of thinking. Sadly the one I enquired about this morning that I was prepared to buy on the weekend is off the market as it needs a new ECU (dodged a bullet there), the guys said it will be re-advertised when fixed but he'll want more money for it as will have spent money on it... not sure it works that way...
