I'd defend the RX-8 as the only four-door car that's interesting. It's no S2000 equivalent though.

I think you need both types of car, Phil.
Yes you're right I do 'need' both tyes of car. Problem is persuading Mrs P!
I guess I've just got to accept that there is no real alternative four seater within my budget.
The RX8 is probably where I'm going to end up, I couldn't drive a 5 series, its just to dull & what's more our 3 series lease car is only 3 years old and is falling to bits, BM's quality seems to have taken a dive in the last 5 years.

Oh well, until I can buy another S2k..............................

Get a 3-series and a Caterham

Have to say the Rx-8 fell into the 'sensible' choice category before I made my mind up, but the driving experience wasn't a touch on the S.

I'm 6'2" and I thought it was very cramped in the cockpit as well, even compared to the S.

Probably get shot down in flames but I am contemplating the Volvo C70 convertible to replace the S in the next 12 months. Going for a test drive next Friday.

You won't consider testing the S4?

Its a very stealthy and very underrated car. If you have qualms about BMW quality, you might find the Audi is right up your street.

Can't you go down the route of having two cars? I've got the S and a PT Cruiser for when I need the doors and space. Admiral multi-car keeps the insurance low.
Suggest it. I guarantee you will have more discussion on what the "family" car which makes the S a fait accompli!

I would say its slower, more uneconomical and generally much worse than its predecessor than you think.

M3 and sod the extra doors.
