You won't consider testing the S4?

Its a very stealthy and very underrated car. If you have qualms about BMW quality, you might find the Audi is right up your street.
Turbo problems!

- I liked it when I test drove it. I think the smoothness of the power makes it feel a bit slower than it is.

Hmm, have to disagree. I've heard on the grapevine that the supposedly 240ps Renesis engines are devoloping 'only' 205 when DYNO'ed!! I've seen head to head comparison on Best Motoring and both the S and DC5-R blast past it on the back Tsukuba straight. Hell, keep the S and buy a decent used Accord Type-R.

Hypersonic's right - there have been problems with the hi-power version.

Oddly, the RX-8's weren't struggling to keep up with the S2000 at the joint meet. Clearly a better road car than a track car.

I'm saddened to hear that BMW are now part of German Leyland. I hope Audi don't join in, but I feel it's inevitable.

How the mighty are fallen.

You'd be suprised, I was. I went on a meet 2 years ago and there was very little in it on the road, he was able to keep apace, and I was not holding back - redline all the way and driving hard.

It doesn't have the same outright power but you can still have a lot of fun with it. The handling is sublime, especially for a 4 door coupe. In it's favour is a unique engine that you get the same high pitch banzai noise similar to the S. That wonderfull 9000rpm red line is a fantastic feeling, it makes you feel like you are driving a sports car. I have driven a standard one round Oulton Park plus I was then taken out by a Pro driver and these cars can handle, much tauter than a 3 series which wallow by comparison!

The car does have a special feeling, it is different and unusual which all helps to put a smile on your face. By definintion a four seater is a compromise and in that context Mazda have done an incredible job.

What about a nearly new Masser Quatroporte?

One of those would be very nice - very exclusive and stunning to look at

Hate to think what the day-to-day costs would be though...

I have two trade contacts who tell me that EVERY Maser they have in has expensive problems

Beautiful car and very fast but you need deep pockets and to buy with the certain knowledge that the car will hurt you financially

Think of Maserati as Ferrari without the reliability or residuals and you get the picture.

Fine if you are well enough off to have the luxury of more money than sense.

A client's car was rear ended & the bill came to over
