Now the fog has gone, we have the situation where everyone will drive around for a week and a half with their foglights on because they've forgotten to turn them off!

And this is in spite of the bright orange light on their instrument display.

Hidden on some cars .... S2000 being one of them but still ..... cars lights should reset once the engine is turned off. Auto lights are a curse, not least because people forget to turn them back on when they accidentally knock the switch to manual. The time will come where ALL vehicle lighting is fully automatic.

It's just a lack of interest / skill and in too much of a rush to be somewhere else.

MIsaligned, bulb out, both bulbs out and fog lights on to keep them going - you name it. It's not just old stuff either, plenty of stuff < 3 years old that fails.. Have you seen the access in most modern cars - you either need the hands of a 5 year old or 3 hours garage time to get dead lamps out.
Especially those with badly-installed 6000K fly-killers, usually cabbies.

Whilst this is all true, they've got more cameras that 1984; it would be another great way to rape money out of the motorist, if they thought of it.

More lights are LED these days too, so there's less excuse.

What is it about Euro-POS though? I've had about three bulbs blow in 20 years of various Mazdas & Hondas. So much so, I'm actually complacent about checking, whereas I used to do it every time I used the lights.
