I bet Pirelli aren't that happy with what most non petrol heads will perceive as poor tyres, might not be good for their marketing.

But with the tyres and the toys it really is good, left the alarm on this weekend to catch the qualies and race. I thought the entire race was great to watch, from the race for the podium down through the rest of the field

As in Sandy Ian, i had to explain that the tyres have been designed to behave like this to make things interesting.

After all she is always raising her eyes to the ceiling when we talk about S2000's etc

If you enjoyed this silliness, I can recommend the two nutters at Another F1 Podcast basically it's two comedians extracting the Michael from everything F1 - Not safe for minors though as they swear like buggery!! Very funny chaps though & much needed as F1 can take itself a bit too seriously sometimes

Love it, that podcast is so funny! The imitation of Jake Humphrey and the BBC is priceless!

Sorry was a little busy this week!

Country:- Turkish Grand Prix
Track:- Istanbul Park
Date:- 6-8 May

Friday 6 May: Practice one - 0800-0930; Practice two - 1200-1330

Saturday 7 May: Practice three - 0900-1000; Qualifying - 1200-1300

Sunday 8 May: Race - 1300

Vettel had a pretty big crash in FP1 but he says this is not a problem for Qualifying. Mclaren and Mercedes GP look fast in Practice, Ferrari well down, RBR Mark Webber was also competitive.

Very likely to be a wet weekend so a good weekend for Team Lotus maybe?

As there's another thread on Lewis's little outburst I won't go into it here.

I really believe that F1 has shot itself in the foot again this weekend.
When the race was red flagged there were apparently two options.
1) end the race with full points (as the 75% mark had been passed)
2) re-start the race

Once they'd decided to re-start the race it actually looked like it would be one of the most exciting finales for months. 3 cars all with a shot of winning and the lead car must pit for a tyre change. The other two are ready to pounce, will Alonso jump Vettel? will Button take Alonso while he concentrates on Vettel?

No. They can basically do what they like to the cars on the grid so we have a 5 lap procession to the end. Why bother?

The fact that Lewis was even in a position to get a second penalty is also farcical as he changed the rear spoiler, how long would that take in a pit stop?

I know they can't change the rules on the grid, but who thought that was a good idea? Vettel must have been laughing his socks off when they decided to restart, he got a free pit stop keeping him 1st when he could have been down to 10th (given how close the pack would be after the re-start)

Farce.

It did seem a bit ridiculous that they were allowed to change tyres, and that's not to mention repairing Hamilton's rear wing which ordinarily would have put him out of the race.

Maybe Vettel's tyres were about to drop off the cliff, or maybe not. The signs were Alonso couldn't do anything about Vettel, and Button couldn't do anything about Alonso, so I don't think the red flag changed the result.

The reason the rule exists makes sense. When a race is red flagged cars have to make there way safely to the grid ready for a restart. Assuming that an incident punctures a tyre you don't really want to have a car on the grid ready for a restart with a flat tyre. Therefore they're allowed to do work on the car.

That rule however ruined what could possibly have been one of the greatest endings to a race in the last decade (probably the Mansell Senna race from the early 90s). Personally I believe they should ammend the rule to allow work to be done to the car only if you bring the car into the pits. Then restart should be allowed using a standard start from the pits after the entire grid has passed by.

That'd mean you REALLY need to come in to the pits for it to be worth coming in.

I have just got round to watching this race after a weekend of racing myself (more Hamilton-esque than Vettel! ) and I agree, the red flag and subsequent restart was silly, it was going to be such a good climax before that big crash and the race stopping. I am not sure why they restarted or why the teams are able to do so much work on the cars.

In saying that, Hamilton was great fun to watch even if he was a little controversial and the pass by Webber on Kobayashi was brilliant.

I do think that Hamilton has a point and it is what I have been saying for a while, the FIA want to promote overtaking but seem to penalise you doing so. It is just mixed messages.

But overall, that was a fantastic Monaco GP which is usually a procession.
