I thought the new pits complex was on the "national straight", but I was wrong and it's between Club and Abbey. As Simon says, Abbey is turn 1, so the DRS is the National Straight and the "Pits Straight" (where the pits aren't). I guess they haven't done the Hanger Straight because it might be too easy.

I found this image of the new circuit, Looks like T1 = Copse?

But then the BBC have this
Now the start-finish line, in use for the F1 race and June's MotoGP event, has been moved between Club and Abbey corners. There's an enticing prospect of a full field of cars streaming together into the brilliant new flat-out Abbey right-hand kink

The relocation of the start-line could alter the racing, with the competitors flowing into Abbey's fast first corner.
All very confusing but looks like LG is right (as always ...)

Better circuit diagram here. I was right

The National Straight is officially the "Wellington Straight" btw.

The circuit diagram looks ok but has North to the right. Bankers

Seems to me this will be a slower circuit, no longer the high speed run round the outside as of old.

Wow, sorry for the confusion with the track map guys!

I did say in my post the new pit was just after Club, but should have made it clearer given it is a new layout. My bad.

Gbduo - not at all, having dug around it was entirely my ignorance. I knew there had been changes and a big new pit building ('The Wing') just simply didn't know the full extent of the track changes. Plus strangely the DRS points would have worked just fine for the Hangar Straight at the same turn numbers on the old layout and start/finish/pits.

As it now is, there is going to be some interesting stuff for the first few more corners, more so than when T1 was Copse. Looking more carefully, I think that diagram I found was after they planned the track changes, but before they had funded the complete rebuild of the new pits and moved the start/finish point to make Abbey into T1.

This is going to be quite fascinating. Especially if Ferrari/Mclaren are closer to Red Bull with this latest rule enforcement change.

Historically these rule changes don't tend to go the way you think. The Red Bull is a fundamentally good car, and I wouldn't be surprised if McLaren et al are using more of these sorts of tricks to make up for not having as good aerodynamics in the first place. The result of the change could be giving Red Bull a bigger advantage.

I liked the wire cam.

that's why dear charlie is changing the rules on the hoof.. looks like Mercedes engines have got a different rule than Renault ones ????

I maybe being a bit unfair, isn't he just one of old hand mechanics and Bernie's man on the inside.. when nowadays you really need to be a bit of a rocket scientist to understand the technology..

The confusion has arisen because the hand drawn map was from last year where they used the new track layout, but the old pits, making Copse Turn 1.

You can see laptimes and average speeds etc from last year to get an idea of how things will go.
