Jenson didn't make the decision. The pay rise was only a consideration for McLaren, making it less likely to decide to keep him. Probably what happened is that McLaren tried to convince him to accept less, and he refused saying he'd retire instead.

Good news anyway. I'm not sure if Will Stevens will be back, so at least there's now going to be two British drivers.
