So much rumors going on, i love it. It's better than most of the races!

Illien has been linked to RBR for quite some time, so I'm sure he has been and will be instrumental for their engine development.
But I still don't quite understand the engine branding.
RBR will buy Renault engines`, unbranded engines so probably at a higher cost than normal, and just call them an RBR engine when asked about it ?

And how can the engine block itself be the main cause for the lack of power?
An engine block in itself does not produce power, so design flaws in the engine block should only be related to longevity no?

If this can bring some close fights at the top then I'm all for it.

From what I understand RBR are effectively going to build their own engines, certainly key components if you read the article it is explained how it works, and also explains why the delay, Renault were not prepared to give them branding rights on the engine ... seems that is now resolved, so a partial Renault and partial RBR engine is born.

I like TJ13, but I haven't seen the story anywhere else. And what's in it for Renault? They're handing over their IP to a team that will probably beat their works team.

Interesting article here:

Another possible twist to the saga, however I cant see this coming to fruition.

Nope, I can think of a number of reasons the block can influence the power.

Firstly the bore/stroke will be part of that for example although I have a suspicion they are set in the rules somewhere but haven't had a chance to go looking.

How well the engine is cooled and the cooling profile through the stroke will be controlled by water channels in the block. More effective cooling of hot spots will give better torque and power. Similarly materials design will influence this too.

By Preloading the block during machining you can deform the bore to give you better geometry and hence lower pumping losses and therefore more torque and power.

Not an exhaustive list but what came to mind whilst reading and typing this reply

So it looks like the testosterone squad have managed to elbow out Susie Wolff before she has even had a chance to show whether she has the ability to race in F1, maybe they were afraid she couldn't park in a pit box? Shame on the whole F1 organisation for ruining this brave woman's dream.

Maybe there's some other sport she can marry her way into.

Sorry, couldn't resist. There needs to be a female driver winning in the lower formulae and then the teams will be jumping over each other to sign her up. No-one male or female with a best ever result of 9th in a DTM race 5 years ago is ever going to be a prospect for an F1 seat.

Have to agree.
I really don't understand the rush with finding the first female F1 star. It will happen, but it needs to happen because she has bags of talent and is a proven race winner in the lower formulas.
