this was why i blamed Rosberg more

then

F1 rules dictate that if a driver moves to defend his position he must leave a car's width if the attacking driver has a "significant" part of his car alongside any part of the car in front

Yes, but look at the direction of Rosberg's car. He's already moving towards the line. He didn't "move" when Hamilton had got a little alongside; all he did was continue straight. And from that picture Hamilton is already partly on the grass before he got significantly along side. Go back a few frames to when the move started and Hamilton would have clearly been behind.

The issue really was the speed differential. Had it been a more normal Hamilton getting a better exit then it would have been fine and nobody would even be talking about it. When you watch the video it happened very fast and Hamilton dived into what was clearly a closing gap which required Rosberg to see him, but when that might have been his one and only opportunity to take back the lead it's understandable.

I think the stewards did the right thing. We want to see racing not penalties for every incident.

It's a shame because it would have likely been another race where Hamilton got pole but was beaten in the race by his team mate. Rosberg's move round the outside of the first corner was excellent.

Of course, had Rosberg not messed up his engine mode settings, the speed differential would not have been there in the first place, and the accident avoided, and he'd have won the race, most likely.

Speculation of who would win is just that. Hamilton was on pole for a reason but he's also notoriously struggling to launch the car

Regardless i agree it's a bitch for both of them but Rosberg looks nailed on for the title, the car is that good and so are both the drivers

Indeed, but given the difficulty of overtaking as well as the significant advantage gained by pitting first at this particular track - an advantage handed to the leading driver, it was Rosberg's race to lose after the first corner.

i think that's why Rosberg closed the door on him which only had 2 possible outcomes, Hamilton crashes into him or Hamilton goes off. 'If I can't have it neither can you...'

Whether or not it was a conscious decision on Rosberg's part I dont know, but I think it was important that he demonstrated to Hamilton that he is not a push over. Lewis has won the majority of the wheel - wheel tussles the two of them have had, in some instances getting mighty close to being the wrong side of the rules (1st corner, Austin last year for example).

Wittingly or not, I think Nico made an important point yesterday.

Although, funnily enough, Hamilton benefitted more than Rosberg as the points gap between them remained the same, instead of increasing by another 7...

I think if you asked him he'd rather have had the opportunity to race and potentially reduce the gap by 7 points. There's now one less chance for him to catch up.

Nico must be kicking himself that he didn't see that Lewis was out of control and get out of the way. Because then he'd have extended his lead by 25 points.
