my cbr got riden every weekeday last winter and sure after riding when salt was down i chucked cold water on it but giving it the full valet treatment no!
As far as ceased anything goes I rather think that a bike that is riden twice a day, 5 weeks a week year in year out is far less likely to suffer ceased anything than one which is ridden hard 1 or 2 days a month over a 6 month period

of course that doesnt mean it doenst or wont happen but it does mean that just coz you dont clean your bike every weak it's gonna fall apart on you!

I did 25k on mine over a period of years in all weathers with no issue.

OTOH if you don't ride mrs smnasn's sv650 for two weeks the fecking calipers seize

for the filter tips. I will try it next time I have to queue to get out of town at the weekend.

I spray mine with some muck-off type stuff and then use a garden spray (no hose access ) to wash it all off at this time of year - then apply Scottoiler protectant stuff. My bike is in good nick for it's age and mileage so I want to try and keep it like that as long as I can, and as I tend to use it every weekend or two for one long ride it doesn't need washed that often - I don't think I'd have the patience to wash it more regularly if I commuted.

Do you guys take the fairings off everytime you clean your bikes?

And at what depth do you change your tyres? Before you get to 1mm I'm guessing!
yep, only takes 5 minutes. so silly not too..

and as for changing tyres.. der..

Personally, I try to change mine at 3mm. 1mm tyres aren't great in soggy conditions and tis easy to wear that tread out in just one small trip anyway.

remember unlike car tyres which legal as even if part of the tyre is below minumum, as long as two thirds is equal or abovel, bike tyres become illegal when any part of the tyre reaches minimum.

Congratulations. Good choice for a first bike.

Agree fully with the recommendation not to ride it until you have changed all the fluids and filters.

Now go and buy yourself some Muck Off and some Duck Oil if you intend riding it this winter.

PS if you want to borrow a bike trailer for the pick up let me know as I have one available..
Thanks for the offer Philip I think we have something already lined up, from a friend living around the corner from my folks. However, if there's a problem then I'll drop you a PM before the weekend, if I may

And remember they tend to wear most in the middle in normal use and squared off tyres aren't fun...

Mine had all the edges worn off before I bought them, so I'm busy wearing the centres down now.

Ahh.. the real reason you bought that particular bike.

Have you taken the angle grinder to the knee sliders yet?

A nice set of dual compound tyres helps with this problem
