Busy today - got the rear pillion foam cut out and gel pad in. Trimmers foam over the top and seat cover back on. Pretty happy with that. Main seat next.

Do you take a pillion?
I fitted a comfort seat to the CRF.. it did improve things because before that it was a bit like sitting on a band saw. While running.

No ( and no pillion but if i ever sell the bike it will be a good selling point because a lot of folk who do tour on these do it two up ) - because some twat bought the wrong size pad originally ... but then thought easier to test my rusty trimming skills on something smaller / cheaper. The 2012 seat ( which this is) was lower than the 2017 seat by half an inch so actually i've gained comfort and still lost a bit more height. Also the gel panel i've fitted is rolled over the edges of the seat and comes down to almost the bottom edge of each side and goes all the way from the front to the very back. I had a sit on it last night in the garage and whilst it's not as plush as the one i had done, it's definitely more supportive because it doesn't squash down.
@arsie thanks - the principle is no different to trimming sub boxes / boot panels and god knows i've done enough of those over the years. Good stretch, decent trimmers foam, good spray glue and a steady firm hand with the staple gun - and the right profile staples.
Kawasaki wanted nearly 400 quid for both seats with gel (thinner pad and a smaller area) - this has cost me about 1/3rd of that including buying the second riders seat and the gel - i'll sell whichever one of the two is now the less comfortable - should get £150 for it if that's the first seat i had. Then that's all of my costs covered.

I redid my CRF seat with new foam and cover but it was all seat concepts stuff from the US.. the quality was good and it was easy to do
The plastic base is bastad pricey and the 450x is rare enough to make them hard to find
The seat on my XSR is fine for my use, I would prefer it were leather but hey ho
