Default Goodbye S2000 Hello VX Turbo

I said goodbye to my 04 S2000 last week It's been great fun driving what we all know is a fantastic car but after nearly 4 years and owning two S2000's it was time to move on and I needed to get some money out of the car as we have a baby on the way.

However I still wanted my weekend and odd commute toy, so after weeks looking at Elise'es I decide you just don't get much power for your money so went for a VX220 Turbo (no badge snobbery here), a Elise sports tourer is only around 120bhp

Probably not as stylish as the Elise but fitted my budget perfectly, 201bhp and weighs about 900kg, can easily (although not that cheaply) modded to 230-240bhp, with a ECU remap and a full sports exhaust, if you have enough cash you can get 300bhp out of these

Its a 03, 24k on the clock, about a months warranty on it (private purchase), there are a few things I wanted looking at but overall the car is great, amazing handling, acceleration is cracking and the insurance was very cheap

I've always written them off simply because they weren't substantially faster than the S. I didn't think of the fact that they were turbocharged, and therefor easily boostable!

Can you post some pics of the interior mate?

Now this im interested in!

The turbo shove will be misleading, but do you find it more quick? Handling better?

These can be remapped to give great big gains, esp with exhaust work. Imgine cooling is an issue though?

Nice! We got our black '03 VX Turbo back in January, and have been really pleased with it. Ours had already had the ECU remap and Miltek sports exhaust fitted that you mention, and is supposed to be putting out around 250bhp, although I've not rolling roaded it to confirm this - whatever it is, it is plenty quick enough, for now anyway.

We use it as a daily driver, and the roof has been off far more than it has been on since we've had it, despite the heaters being nowhere near as good as the S's - just means you have to wrap up well in the colder weather.

Enjoy it - they're great fun.

not substantially faster than the S? the VXT's are significantly quicker before you turn the boost up. Flat torque curve and 200 bhp in a car that only weights 75% of an s2k makes it pretty fast.

Good choice big fecker. I seriously considered one when i was looking to change my car, but because i use mine as a daily driver, i couldn't cope with climbing in and out of one on a daily basis.

But as you are only using it as a fair weather car, excellent choice! I didn't think that the roof was too bad considering what the car is. Its certainly not the power hood of the S2k, but i was pleasantly suprised at how well it fitted.

Have fun!
