Default Hand held speed trap!

Evening, does anybody know if a copper is using a hand held speed trap and catches somebody speeding say doing 60 in a 40, would they pull the person over at the side of the road or do they not do that anymore?

Thanks

We've had these recently through a small village I go through on the way to work. It's a long stretch of road so would give the policeman plenty of time to wave you over (thankfully a colleague rang me and warned me about the trap).

If it's a hand held "laser gun" then they need to stop you there and then. Normally a copper just down the road hidden in the layby.

Yep, hand held Laser would result in a stop at the time - assuming it wasn't a 'SCP' and was hand held, not on a tripod.

Yeah, they need to get the evidence. I would think the speeding car would be going too quick for them to catch the full number plate. Hence the chase.

Around here we have a number of "community" speed traps. I was lead to believe that if they "caught" you speeding you'd get a warning letter in the post, i.e. they note your number plate.

As it happens, I wanted to try out the laser detection on my Road Angel (it didn't work!), so the guy/gal in a yellow vest pointed the gun at me as I approached (not too fast, but just enough to peek their interest).

A couple of weeks later I got the warning letter in the post on Police headed note paper.

If the "community" can do this, then I guess there's nothing to stop the copper doing it and actually proscecuting you, although I suppose it begs the question of evidence, but then again that's no different from when the guy springs from the layby on the spot, i.e. you only have the word of the officer with the speed gun that he clocked you.
