Has VW lost the plot with the new R32?

Nick - I configured an S3 and it came out at 34k and the R with similar options, infact less options came out at 37k. The bucket seats are a 3k option!!!!
Gad - It may well be in their plot but if you are taking it literally then perhaps I should of headed it up as "isnt the new R a tad expensive?". I actually totally get the R concept but as it was back in 2004, a limited subtle performance hatchback for a more mature driver. One of the reasons I got rid of the s2k for one.

cf. the Civic Mugen; they'll sell enough to create the 'halo' effect.

Isn't the Audi S3 is circa 28k - hmmm tough call

I'd go S3 out of the two.
IMHO the Golf R has lost the "spirit" of the VR6 it is decended from

But that tends to happen with modern cars
Mazda 3 mps .... the newest one ?
I test drove the 'old' one ... super quick mid range but flat top end. That mid range was like a mapped car mind - very amusing !
Not that I think you can map them but ... you don't need a remap !!
I found the build OK ... no Audi/BMW but perfectly fine ... and comfy seats too

I paid ~£27k for my s3 2.5 years ago, and that was with a few decent options (but not the bucket seats, which were £1600).
The golf R does appear to have loast the plot in its pricing, but I suspect that within a few years it will look reasonable value for money again as all the other manufacturers put their prices up.

The Mazda 3 was a car I'd forgotten existed!
