Focus or a Mondeo
Cheap to run, reliable as a rule and cheap to fix.
Also cheap to insure.

I think with anything "sporty", esp at this age, you pay the premium and get a good gone or you buy cheap and get a crap one.

Whereas if you search around, you can get a good mondeo, omega etc. that aren't that desirable but can still get good examples at that price. Larger cars (esp with larger engines) have plummeted so great value and nice to "waft" rather than the sporty drive of the S2000 so a nice contrast between motors.

Also, although the coupe's have "4" seats, in reality they're 2 seaters unless small/tiny people in the back. Having said that, the Corrado I had could get 4 full sized adults in! You won't get a VR6 for your money (unless a crap one) buy possibly a 16v jobbie.

I have been faced with a similar budget to find a car for my BIL & family when he returns to UK for a month.

Last time he came back, I bought a nice 75,000 mile V6 Omega for

Crumbs!!!

Just been looking at Rover 75's after Ian's comment above and there are loads within your budget Luke

I had no idea they were so cheap now. On the plus side they've all been owned by old giffers so not one of them will have ever done more than 3000rpm

Anything rover and i just flinch really, with the whole head gasket problems they used to have. Remeber my old man having a 220 gti thing, and he had a load of trouble with that.

Maybe it improved with the 75 im not sure.

Think the 75 is a tad big anyway, its just going to go back and forth to site really.

Just wanted the four seats for the extra option of using it other then taking two cars everywhere etc. The boots got to be big enough to carry some high vis stuff, boots, and a laptop or two.

Fair point really, you do get what you pay for!

The engines in the 75's where all BMW units from memory so no head gasket issues that I'm aware of, but for what your looking for the 75 is a touch too big by the sounds of it.

My beater is a Focus, can't fault it. The only trouble is I'm doing more miles in the Honda as I just love driving it
