Help with my Ford Focus
Hi there you knowledgeable lot....
My 2003 Ford Focus started playing up yesterday. Under idle its shaking around like a jelly baby doing cold turkey. There is a severe lack of power under load and it drives like a tractor, vibrating considerably. There is also the odd backfire and a bit of a pong coming from the exhaust. To me it seems like a misfire, and based on internet reports im suspecting the coil pack needs replacing.
Ive read that this is a common fault, but wondered if anyone else has experience of this or knows of any gotchas. Also, should i replace the plugs and leads at the same time? Ive read that problems in this area can spread to the leads and plugs and then re-short out the new coil pack if you dont change the whole lot.
Ta muchly

My wifes 2002 Focus did the same thing - although the engine management light cam on also. I called the AA as I was away from home at the time - the AA man said it was so common he kept a coil pack in stock in his van. 5 minutes to fit and all sorted.
