Honda Civic Type R Test Driven!
I never actually went into Brindley's for a test drive at all, but Adrian threw the keys at me as I went in. Well..........what are you gonna do?
When I got back he told me they are being plagued to death with visits and phone calls trying to get test drives in the CTR. Most of 'em from youngsters who've got no chance of getting insurance let alone buying one! For that reason they are only offering test drives to 'serious' enquirers. Adrian made me promise not to tell anyone where I had the test drive. I told hom I woudn't tell anyone of course!
Well.... If the wheel comes off, I'll just say Jonathan grassed me up!

Thanks Tonky for the review. I've driven the Mini and I have to say it's impressive. Great chassis, very go-kartish, and surprisingly nimble when compared with the figures, but changing at 6500 is a problem ! So i'm in search of a test drive of a CTR.
I know I'm going to miss the digital dash and the roof but the CTR
does sound like it might do the trick.

LOL Yes.. going back along the A5 I pulled out and overtook a stream of traffic holding onto 2nd then 3rd. The vtec is tremendous.
With the torquey front wheel drive and very positive steering, vtec, with it's less roarty exhaust was a bit like driving a manic Scalextric car.
Whatever you do, get a go in one!

I read that the CTR has much more usable power - less peaky than in the S2000. I was very tempted to put my name down for one as now that I have a baby daughter I could do with some rear seats!
Instead, I got rid of my daily drive along with my wife's car and bought a slippers and pipe Accord (gasp). Now I have to drive my S2000 everyday (not the best time of year) as my wife always needs the Accord. (My S2000 has been a sunny day car so far - just 5000 miles in over 2 years).
So the CTR may get a closer look depending on how the winter goes. Salt on my S2000 : ahhhhh!! It has only been wet twice (apart from when washing it or leaning on the bloody headlamp washer button - did that again tonight).
I haven't seen a CTR in the "flesh", but was impressed with the sportier look of the 3 door Civic over the dull looking 5 door.
I was impressed when I drove an ITR but hated the cabin and found it uncomfortable (and dull to look at). But there is no denying the ITR is a quick car and CTR looks to be even better. The 5 door rides very well but feels a bit tall. The 3 door is lowered and shortened. Hopefully my dealer will get one shortly. Theirs is very late. I could do with a decent loan car when my S goes in for a service. I had fancied a go in the Accord R.

I suspect you'd just love it. It sacrifices very little really to the S2000 in terms of performance. I think they quote a 0-60 time of 6.8 secs. I think the top speed is about 140 mph.. not too sure.
Whilst the car is quite low when you stand next to it, it does have an undeniable 'people carrier' persona. It feels very strange drawing all that performance from such a comparatively high seating position too.
I reckon it's gonna give TT's, Mr2's, and a lot of Z3 and SLK type cars a run for their money! What a shock they're gonna get!

Thanks for the review Cedric. Many moons ago I had one of the few Civic VTEC's in the country - a 1990 car as I remember - it had a 1.6 engine which rev'd to 8500 rpm and sounded absolutely manic!!! - the VTEC 'kick' was more pronounced than any other VTEC engined car I have owned (Civic VTi, Prelude VTEC and of course the S2000) - what is the onset of VTEC like in the CTR?
I must say that the Renault Scenic is suddenly looking like it needs changing

Vtec is very impressive, really pushes you back in the seat much like the S2000 but without the primal scream! This is going to sound silly but I still don't know what the red line is on the CTR so I was holding onto the gears much like I would in the S2000 more from habit than anything. I never hit the limiter and it was accelerating all the way like $hit off a stick! I passed a BMW 325 like he'd stalled
