Default How much power to front wheels?

Just been given a cheap offer on a new car.. that has 300bhp and 400nm of torque.. (petrol turbo).. but it's FWD.. ..

sounds an unrealistic amount of power/torque for the front wheels to manage.. I can just imagine the traction control light burning itself out after a few miles..

but then again, you see so many monster turbo diesels on the road with big torque figures and only FWD..?

what's a reasonable max number for FWD.. 200bhp?

I think it really depends on whether or not the cars suspension etc... was designed to take it. The astra VXR has 240 and apparently really struggles to put it down.

I always thought the "limit" was meant to be 220bhp for a fwd car. Not sure if that figure is at the flywheel or the tarmac (probably tarmac).

Silly question, but what's the car?

The Focus RS was supposed to be an absolute bitch for torque steer but the new Focus ST has even more power. If it wasn't for all the traction / stability management systems it's twist itself back in time!

hirsch spec saab aero 9-5 a 2.3turbo

the hirsch upgrades are currently free..

performance sounds good on paper.. but the 9-5 chassis sounds more than a bit iffy for taking that sort of power.. even though they say the suspension is also part of the upgrade..

looking for something that is very practical - but isn't too boring..

don't care too much about residuals..

the new V70 T6 looks OK..as it's 4WD but tax and fuel isn't the best..

Saab 9-5 aero's have a reputation for torque steer anyway. Increasing the power isn't going to help.

so sounds like 300bhp isn't that helpful at the front... unless I am on a long straight and dry autobahn..

btw.. this is not to replace the honda.. or to have something as quick as that,

it's to replace my A4 avant, so need something at least as large for all of the family and holiday duties....

I quite like the torque from the diesels, but would be nice to have a petrol again also.
