How much power to front wheels?
The Renault Megane Sport 230bhp R26 is meant to be the nuts and can handle all the FWD torque / spin / cornerning because it has a LSD to control the matters

But the big news is the introduction of a limited-slip differential, and the results are impressive. The system makes a huge difference to the car's dynamics - engine power is transferred to the road in a more consistent and predictable manner, and there's none of the torque steer that plagued the R26's predecessor. It's more comfortable, too.
The improvement is most noticeable on twisting roads. Where the previous car would lose power through wheelspin, the new model is much more composed. It turns in precisely and corners well, but while the steering is responsive, it still lacks feel. As a result, the driving experience is not as involving as that of rivals such as the VW Golf GTI. The Renault's 2.0-litre turbocharged powerplant has been boosted to 227bhp, but it's the low-down torque which is most impressive.

BBR do a 240 as well which I have read positive reports on.
<edit> Scrap that!!
BBR are now getting 307bhp out of the 1.6

"So, what does a 307bhp, 160mph MINI feel like? Explosively fast is the short answer. However, you need a steely nerve to guide it, for although essentially well mannered at modest speeds, the Cooper S 300T bares its sabre-like teeth when you push the throttle pedal to the carpet.
Under hard acceleration on the test track, the nose tugs and pulls at every bump and camber change, to the point where you need both (sweaty) hands on the steering wheel. Thanks to a limited-slip differential, wheelspin is kept in check to a remarkable degree, at least on dry roads. Once in fourth and fifth gears, the 300T's 100 per cent increase in torque ensures it surges forwards like an Impreza STi or Mitsubishi Evo."

Skoda do a couple of 4WD estate cars with 180+ hp. I've driven a couple with 'sports' suspension and while they aren't hardcore cars they are very good indeed. The newer diesels also have 4WD variants and produce plenty of torque for pulling.
Not exactly a sexy car though

Is it just the image of the impreza that puts you/wife off?
I have proposed several over the years and failed to convince,
when I lived in Japan it was of course local stuff..
Subaru Impreza - no - too fugly
Nissan Skyline GTR - no - too angular
Honda S2000 - yes - looks like a proper sportscar
back in Europe -
Porsche cayman - no - looks like a frog (it was a green one)
