Default How much would you pay ?

how much would you pay for a licence plate. for me a month ago it would be a few hundred max but then i saw T006LEY. i seriously am questioning putting it on the credit card and paying it off over the year. i won't post the price as i would like to see what people will pay for a licence plate 1st. the fact that this one matches my name and car almost exact and i will have it for life is really appealing. i have seen T005LEY and T005LEY for half the price as well but the different letter and seeing the other one kind of makes it sub quality if you know what i mean ?

by the way my surname is Tooley

I can think of much better things to buy...

...even if the plate has some personal significance.

I wouldn't think that a plate of such significance is worth paying for over the course of a year either...

I alternate from thinking they are a naff waste of money and thinking they would be quite handy as (a) a keeper, and (b) a way to "un-age" a car.

They can suit a more unusual motor a bit better than standard plate if they are not too naff.

What one would pay would all come down to what sort of disposable income one had, so difficult to put a figure on it. I assume you would have to pay at least £500 for anything remotely different though.

If I thought I would get all my money back on resale, it would be an easier decision, but I'm not sure what the market is really like.

I paid over £1k for one for my husband. His nickname is Filo, surname begins with B so got him F1 LOB. Worth it watching him open it up on Christmas Day.

Paid £250 for the one for SWMBO. Her nickname is Jetty (J333TTY)Its on its 3rd car now.
Paid £250 for £250 the "family" one JS 57JHS. Our initials and I will let you guess what the 57 is for.

We bought them because we could and we wanted to.

I've got quite a few, most expensive was over £1k, but I could easily sell it if I wanted.

Chris.

I'm sure mine was £600 transferred onto the car, I was offered slightly more for it earlier this year so it it wouldn't be a total loss if it had to go, it's an old 1975 suffix plate so that may make a difference but no way would I go into debt to buy a plate(or anything again) unless we (she) decide to move house again.

I live on the south side of Glasgow and around here they're ten a penny. Indeed, my area is in the top three areas for personalised plates (two of the top three are Scottish ... ).

Not a massive fan, although I do plan to takeover the old dear's UHS 19 when she's done with it. The old man bought it for £5 from a Herald classified ad in the late 70s to stick on her wee Fiat 126 as a bit of joke. She's had it ever since and it was on the VW Polo in which I learned to drive.

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but if I saw T006LEY I'd read it as Toogley, and the other as Toosley. What did you mean about it matching the car though, what car is it going onto, an S?

Yeah - unless it's an EXACT match, it simply doesn't work at all.

Stick to car-related or best change your name by deed poll to match your car.
