How much would you pay ?
personal choice - only you can decide what it's worth
which is clearly nothing to someone called Smith and possibly lots to someone called T006 LEY
all I would say is that I'd caution against spending more than hundred or two or on it because you are hardly purchasing an easily realisable asset
I find name-related plates a bit pikey but accept it's a prejudice of some kind
I don't spend more than a microsecond thinking about it
unless a plate reinforces some other stereotypes, say in the case of the driver's appearance or the way the car is driven
in which case I might think about it a bit more

It's all down to personal choice, I've had a few over the years and I've never lost money on any of them and made a good profit on others, as you're not looking at a plate to go on a particular car then it's probably going to be a long term investment, I had MOB911F on my 911 and sold it for over £1000 profit when I moved on, I had M3WKD which I paid £700 for and sold for £800 but as you're looking at a number that's personal to you I think they are worth more money and you'll certainly keep them longer. I ended up buying M47TYS and thats now worth well over £3k more than i paid for it but I can't see me ever parting with it even though I haven't got a car I'd dream of putting it on at the moment. So in the long term they can be a good investment and if you're going to keep it and you can afford it who cares what it cost? I'd avoid car specific plates though unless they're classics - I remember when S2000 was for sale for £20000 although I don't think it ever sold. I nearly bought B16MAT once for £3500 and it's now worth over £13000
I hate private plates. I think there are few things more egotistical to be honest.
But I do enjoy the comedy value they provide when you're driving behind someone with one so esoteric you don't have a fugging clue what it means.
I'd say go for it. For no other reason than that I can cheer myself up by laughing at you in a traffic jam.

Tesco Brookfield Farm was great; the amount of bleached-blonde hodcarriers' wives in old M-Bs with the most contrived plates in illegible curlicue fonts used to have me in stitches. Probably had a fake Louis Vuitton bag as well. Cliches are nothing unless you have all of them. You'd have been unable to stand up, probably.
The bubble era; and it was the tipping point at which all of the above became seriously uncool.
