I'm seriously considering getting rid of the S
If you're fortunate enough to own a weekender, then you have alot more choice than S2000's. I guess the thing with the S that wears off, is the 9k rpm thing, mated with its twitchy behaviour on a given surface. It's a trait of the car you enjoy, live with and are aware of.
But 9k rpm on today's bustling roads, hurtling towards double the speed limit at times, isn't exactly always a good idea. Apart from the legality thing with speed, and the addiction to hearing the cam switch over, it's bext played with on country lanes dodging cyclists on a Sunday morning... or better still, the track.
As you get older, you appreciate that there's better handling cars out there. Or cars that had heritage, rarity... or just because you wanted one and never owned one (like a Triumph TR6 for example). I think that if you're driving everywhere slowly in an s2000, its just as boring as a Fiesta. No drama's, but still those looks are great. Your MX5 has clearly shown how graceful they are, less snappy and more controllable on the limit. In a GT86 way.
Times have changed, you get older, and your needs change. If I had a spare 3k, I'd be back in a 205 GTi 1.9 (like my old one). It handled superb, still looks great for an oldie. And you can fettle (Mi 16 engine). I'd miss that wind in the hair though..
(ps... on the Beater comment. 71.2mpg today from Wigan to Runcorn in my VRS.. and its 160hp!)

And MX5 at the limit on cheap tyres wouldn't actually be going the same kind of speed as the S2k at those sensible levels but would offer a different kind of fun.
I honestly don't know how people in super cars enjoy them on the road as it's not the S2k's limitations I'm reaching but more how far you can actually see down the road.
Plus driving the S2000 to it's engine limits on a country lane means using 2 gears

Shirley that's the only way to drive an S2000?
Much more fun keeping it on high lift as much as possible. Makes the rear wiggle better too.

It's getting tuned in the summer, I'll stick a thread on here. I wasnt going to, but what the hell.... it'll be a laugh.
Just use the mx5 gaz, FI it and have fun
In the S2k, I get to use vtec once, possibly twice per journey.
In the MX5 I can thrap the pants off it everywhere and race people without them actually knowing I'm racing them.
